July 2014: I Blogged A Lot

2014-july-calendar-image

July was quite a month for me in the blogosphere. I always say that my goal with this blog is to average one post per day each month. Meaning that at the end of each month my post-count should be at least the same as the number of days in that month, even if I didn’t actually post every single day (some days I may post multiple new posts, and then other days post nothing). I have rarely accomplished this since I started this blog way back in October 2008 (when I posted 5 posts). But this year I really resolved to do better. In January, February, and March I posted 17 new posts each (a coincidence, I swear). In April I posted a big fat ZERO new posts. That’s not cool. I slightly bounced back in May with 12 new posts and then in June, a day with 30 days, I posted 47 new posts.

But July? 31 days = 71 NEW POSTS.

A notable milestone is July 23rd, which turned out to be my biggest day ever in terms of number of views and visitors that this blog received. My previous record was 1,282 (I forgot which day that was, or how many visitors that includes). On July 23rd I set a new record with 2,367 unique visitors who collectively viewed this blog 2,568 times!

The post that got the most hits that day was my review of Spider-Man & Batman: “Disordered Minds” which is currently my 6th most-viewed post ever (1,610 views). Rounding out the top 5 that day were my reviews for SUPERMAN #33 by Geoff Johns & John Romita Jr, STORM #1, and SAVAGE DRAGON #196 (this was a Wednesday, which is the day new comics come out, so that’s why I was posting all of these reviews), plus my post “BLACK” OR “AFRICAN-AMERICAN”? which was actually a re-post from my Facebook page a few months ago.

And my 2nd, possibly even bigger, milestone, was that on July 30th, my post FEAR OF A WHITE RAPPER from July 22 got selected by WordPress editor Michelle Weber to be “freshly pressed”

The exposure that has provided, and continued to do so, is amazing. Over the past two days that post got 241 views, 86 “Likes” and 9 reblogs, along with a bunch of thoughtful comments. I loved it! I also got many new followers on this blog, and I’ve reciprocated and followed a lot of those bloggers too (I’ll need to update my blogroll this weekend).

I can’t deny that this brings some anxiety. Now with of these eyeballs, I worry about providing new interesting content on a daily basis. Generally, I just write about whatever the heck I feel like writing, and don’t think about who might read it. I’m still kind of amazed that anyone feels like reading my posts. But now that I know that I am indeed being read on a regular basis by many, I know I need to try to pay more attention to things like typos and spelling errors (that is my major weakness).

My only regret about the month of July is that I didn’t have more posts that are about more general topics about life and what’s going on in the world and how I feel about it, instead of mostly reviewing various movies, comic-books, and stuff like that (which are easier and faster for me to write). I don’t want this to seem like just a “pop culture reviews” blog, I want to write about important stuff.

Unfortunately real life gets in the way sometimes, and I just don’t have the amount of free time necessary to write more thoughtful posts. And it doesn’t look like that’s going to change in the near future, so expect the month of August to be chock full of reviews as well (with occasional insightful articles). Hopefully I’ll have a little more time to “breath” in September. Either way, in the meantime, I’d like to say HELLO to all of my new followers and readers and let you all now that I appreciate each and every single one of you! I hope this is a great month for everyone!

Stay tuned!
