There ya go, that’s me. I’m completely naked in that picture.
Over the weekend, there was some major Apple iCloud hack and a bunch of celebrities accounts got hacked and, low and behold, a bunch of private nude pictures were revealed and released.
It’s a darn shame. Anytime someone gets hacked like that it’s bad. And as I’ve said before people’s right to privacy is prime concern of mine. Some writers, like Scott Mendelson of Forbes have addressed the sexist aspect of this case:
The story itself should not be addressed as if it were a scandal, but rather what it is: A sex crime involving theft of personal property and the exploitation of the female body. READ MORE
He’s absolutely right.
However I’m just going to ahead and say this, at the risk of being accused of “blaming the victims”, I simply don’t understand why, in this day and age, any celebrity would ever take naked pictures of themselves? I mean, this isn’t like this hasn’t happened before. Olivia Munn, Vanessa Hudgens, Scarlett Johansson, and many more have had this happen just in this past decade. Heck, it happens to male celebrities too. From Chris Brown to Calum Hood (who?) to Anthony friggin’ Weiner Same goes for sex tapes. How many more “leaked” sex taps do we need to see before celebrities figure out that it’s probably not a good idea to make them?
Look, I’m not “judging” people who take nude pictures or film sex tapes of themselves. Full disclosure, I’ve done it myself (showing everything). But that was back in the dinosaur days before digital cameras, my pics were taken with a poloraid, and I eventually got them back from the ex-girlfriend I sent them to and destroyed them. Nowadays, with digital images that last forever and can turn up anywhere and anytime, when you least expect it? I probably wouldn’t do it today. And I’m a nobody. I’m just saying that if you’re a celebrity perhaps you need to think twice about it. Fame comes with it’s downsides. You give up a lot of your privacy, you’re right to do things without being watched. I’m sure it’s fun to have men with cameras following you when you’re on a red carpet at a movie premier but not so much when you’re dropping your kids off at Elementary School. Same goes with nude pics or sex tapes. Yeah, I know a lot of couples do it and think it’s a fun way to get the sexiness going, I understand that. But when you become famous maybe that’s just one of those things you have to accept is no longer part of your life, because of the risk of exposure. That’s all I’m saying.
