WORKING FOR A LIVING‏

Dang, 9 days into the month, and no new blogs. Falling back into that old non-habit. Well, once again, it’s WORK. I’ve just been working so darn much I don’t any energy to think afterwards. Again, I know, I shouldn’t complain. I mean, I can go read stories like this:

Unemployment Stories, Vol. 11: ‘I’d Crawl to Work If I Had To’

Unemployment Stories, Vol. Ten: ‘It Wouldn’t Matter if I Just Disappeared from the Face of the Earth’

Unemployment Stories, Vol. Nine: ‘I Went From Being a Thriving Human Being to a Bitter Recluse Who Rants on Facebook’

..and be darn glad that I have a job. Any job. Far too many folks don’t, and would love to be in my position. And it’s not just any job, really. I do like (most of) the people I work with. And it’s a job I’m comfortable doing and, because of how busy we are, I have relative job security. It’s highly unlikely that I’ll be laid off any time in the foreseeable future. But it’s not easy. I am on my feet most of the day, and I’ve doing this for the past 12 years, and did the same thing at my previous job for 4 or 5 years, so it’s adding up. My feet hurt all the time. I’m not sure if I can take many more years of this. But that’s a thought for another day.

This particular week already got out to a bad start. We had some technical difficulties which screwed us up yesterday, so we fell far behind. And then things got even worse today. So I know tomorrow’s going to be killer. My main supervisor got fired suddenly last month, for reasons which I’m completely clueless. I could look him up on Facebook and ask, but I’ve felt too uncomfortable to do so, so I’ve avoided it. But losing one of the folks who knows what he’s doing just creates more work for the rest of us. There was a screw up at the company last month when it came time to renew our insurance coverage (& the fact that I get good coverage is one more reason I should be grateful, of course), and I got put on PPO instead of HMO, like I prefer. It costs more, so more gets taken out of my paycheck, but I like having the option of being able to choose different doctors when I want to. It took a month to get it fixed, and I’ve been needing to see a doctor for a check up, plus I need to see an optometrist for new glasses, so it finally got fixed last Friday and I managed to make an appointment for this morning, but because we got so backed up yesterday I rescheduled for Thursday, but now it looks like I’ll have to postpone that too. With how busy it is, I just don’t want to come in late, because that just make the work even harder for me. So that’s another bummer.

The weather’s finally cooling down a bit. I’ve had to get out my extra blanket for my bed at night, and have taken the fan out of my bedroom, and brought in the heater, although I haven’t started using it yet. And gas suddenly shot up in the West Coast last week. I went to fill up yesterday, didn’t really need to but I wanted to get in now before it rose even higher, and regular was $4.67, which I heard is currently the statewide average. Thankfully I only needed about 5 gallons. But, dang.

At least I got my one-day Vegas trip to look forward too next Saturday, for my Facebook friend, Amber’s, wedding. That should be an interesting experience.

Well, that’s about all the personal stuff I’ve got going on right now. I’ll see if I can fill this up with some more blogs, maybe some reviews, in the next couple of days. As I said, my current goal is to average at least one blog a day each month. So as long as I have at least 31 posts here by Oct. 31st, I’ll be on track. I did 31 is Sept., so I came out ahead that month.
