Okay, I’ve been trying my best to review this series, and make clear how awesome it is, without spoiling it. Well, things are reaching their climax here, so I kind of have to spoil stuff. If you’re on the fence about this book, trust me, just go buy it already. And then come back here and read my review to see if you agree or disagree with it.
Picking right up from the last issue, it’s Loki vs. Hercules in the middle of an arena full of Loki’s biggest fans. Much to Hercules’ surprise, Loki is easily countering every punch that he throws. As Loki so arrogantly points out “You think you’re touch because you have a couple of temples built in your honor? I’ve got over eight million Twitter followers, can you even fathom that level of worship? The power that comes from that?”
The fight continues until Loki straight-up kills Hercules. The fans in the audience are going wild, still thinking this is all part of the show, but Loki’s bandmates, David, Masumi, and Kay realize that this is all real, and they’re getting scared at the thought of what Loki is going to do next. Meanwhile up in Asgard Odin is single-handily fighting an armada of Gods, slaughter all that face him, but eventually even he is overwhelmed. So then the leaders of the rebel Gods, Anansi the African Spider-God, Baron Samedi, Haitian God, Tu Er Shen the Chinese rabbit God of homosexuality, and Nanook the artic God of the hunt (a giant polar bear) show up in the arena with Odin’s severed head. But Loki just laughs and points out that with Odin and Thor dead that make him the new lord of Asgard, and combined with the worship of his millions of fans, he’s unequivocally the most powerful God of them all. He then uses Thor’s hammer to blow a giant hole of lightning right through Baron Samedi, as his bandmates look on in horror at the monster they’ve helped create…
Now THAT’S one heck of a cliffhanger!
