10 “INTERESTING” FACTS ABOUT MYSELF

10-facts

Taken from the 30-Day Writing Challenge Prompt #4. I’ve previously done a list of 25 Random Facts About Me, so I’ll have to try to come up with new stuff. And I’ve put the word “interesting” in quotes because, well, whether any of these facts are actually interesting is a matter of opinion. Judge for yourself.

#1 I NEVER COULD QUITE GET THE HANG OF THE “BLACK HANDSHAKE”

I have to say this is lack of skill of mine has lead to several awkward social interactions during my lifetime. This is why I was so happy when the Obama’s popularized the fist-bump, because that is so much easier. I can fist-bump anyone.

#2 MY FAVORITE FONT IS VERDANA

I can’t explain why, I just like the look of it. On both my home and work computers, I always change the settings in my browsers, and Word, to make Verdana the default font.

#3 I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN CALIFORNIA, AND HAVE ONLY BEEN TO THREE OTHER STATES, SO FAR.

I’ve been to New York once, for a week, when I was a teenager, to visit relatives. I’ve been to Las Vegas twice, once for one day and once for two days, both to attend friend’s weddings. And I’ve been to Alabama twice, once for 4 days and once for two and half days, to visit with some friends that I made years ago on Facebook (see, online friends can become “real friends”).

#4 I USED TO BE A MUSLIM

Yep. For about 5 years. All those teenage years reading about Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali had an effect on me, I guess. Although, to be clear, I was not affiliated with the Nation of Islam, I was a Sunni Muslim. I almost changed my named to Jamal Rakim Luqman (to keep my same initials). But I didn’t, because of all the things I’d need to update (bank accounts, insurance info, drivers license, credit cards, etc.) I just feel like it was worth the hassle. In retrospect that was probably for the best…

#5 I USED TO BE A BAHA’I

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. “What the heck is that?!?”
Well, it’s a religion that I converted from Islam to, for about 2 years. Read about here: http://www.bahai.org/

#6 MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME IS “IN YOUR EYES” BY PETER GABRIEL

I’ve loved it ever since I first heard it in one of my favorite movies SAY ANYTHING

#7 MY FAVORITE COLOR IS BLACK

Pants, shirts, underwear, shoes. If I could regularly find good black socks that were big enough for my huge feet, I’d be wearing All Black Everything most of the time.

#8 I DON’T LIKE SEAFOOD

I just never developed a taste for it. Not for any kind of food originating from the seas. Fish, crab, lobster, shrimp, tuna, nope, nothing. I can’t east.

#9 I ONCE GOT CAUGHT SHOPLIFTING

I’m not proud to say that this is something I did…more than once…when I was a teenager. Always small items. Until I got caught trying to steal a pint of ice cream from the local liqueur store when I was 19. I learned my lesson, and have NEVER done it since.

#10 I TOOK DRUMMING LESSONS WHEN I WAS A KID

Much like the karate lessons I mentioned in my previous list, I wasn’t really interested at the time, and quit after a few months. And in retrospect I wish I had stuck with it, as I would likely be awesome at it my now.

Although, I guess, with my Tinnitus, playing drums probably wouldn’t be very helpful (may have even brought it on sooner, and worse than it is now) anyway. So maybe I dodged a bullet with that one?

And that’s 10 “Interesting” Facts about ME.
