R.I.P. LISA MARIE

Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis Presley’s only child whose tumultuous life also included a music career, died Thursday in a Los Angeles hospital, her representative confirmed to Variety. She was 54.

“Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie,” reads a family statement. “They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.” READ MORE

Well, I feel like I need to write something, but what can I even say? This just sucks. Elvis’ only child, dead long before her time.

And right there I’m thinking of how it’s kind of unfair that I’m identifying her by who her father was, but it’s hard to avoid. The truth is I personally identify her more by her relation to others, as she’s connected to some of my favorite celebrities.

The daughter of Elvis Presley, my 2nd all-time favorite singer, whom I’ve idolized most of my life.

And the daughter of Priscilla Presley, who starred for several years on my all-time favorite TV show, DALLAS.

The ex-wife of Michael Jackson, my all-time favorite singer whom I’ve also idolized for most of my life.

The ex-wife of my favorite actor, Nicolas Cage.

And the mother of Riley Keough, whom I loved in the TV series, The Girlfriend Experience.

Admittedly, I didn’t follow her life that closely. I know she had her troubles, but she also faced and appeared to have overcome a lot of adversity. I’m sure the trauma of losing her father at such a young age was not easy to overcome, now growing up with that shadow hanging over her head. And then 3 years ago she had to endure the suicide of her eldest son Benjamin, something no parent should have to endure.

Speaking of which, my heart really goes out to Priscilla, who’s now experienced the death of a child and a grandchild.

Again, it just sucks, as things seemed to be going well. The Elvis biopic, which she was behind. was a huge hit, and she just got to see Austin Butler win a Golden Globe award for his portrayal of her father.

And then just like that, dead. Here one day, gone the next. Only 54 years old, she should have had decades ahead of her. I guess that just goes to show you that none of us are promised tomorrow. Be sure to tell the people you love that you love them whenever you can, as you never know when the last time you talk to them will be the last time you talked to them.

My heart goes out to Lisa Marie Presley’s family, friends, and fans. Rest In Peace.
