Just a quick run down of a few stories that have caught my eye recently:

This is Molly Shattuck, a 47 year old divorced mother of three.

Up ’til now her claim to fame is that when she was 38 years old she become a cheerleader for the Baltimore Ravens, making her the oldest NFL cheearleader ever.

Now she’s back in the news for a brand new reason: She has been arrested and accused of having a sexual relationship in Delaware with a 15-year-old boy who attended the same school as her children, and now now faces two counts of third-degree rape, four counts of unlawful sexual contact and three counts of providing alcohol to minors. Good grief. Here we go again, another adult female with an underage male. Fifteen. Fifteen. And the boy is a friend of her fifteen year old son. Again, I admit to a double-standard in my thought process here, because my first reaction is what is wrong with that woman? If it were a 47 year old man with a 15 year girl I’d just think horny pervert, lock him up. But with her I find myself wondering if she’s got serious and emotional issues? This affair supposedly began 4 months before she got divorced, so things must have been going bad in her personal life and she was messed up. Or maybe she’s just a horny pervert too. I don’t know. I will say that the fact that this incident included her giving the boy alcohol takes this to another level of wrong-ness.

A planned Led-Zepplin reunion tour is off, because Robert Plant refuses to sign up for it.

The 66-year-old singer walked away from a 35-date tour that would have paid the rock group nearly $800 million — ripping up the contract in front of stunned promoters, the Mirror newspaper reported Sunday. British tycoon Sir Richard Branson had planned to reunite the Stairway to Heaven rockers and promoters had even gotten the green light from the other band members.

The mega deal would have paid Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones roughly $300 million apiece, before taxes, according to The Mirror. Group members lobbied hard for Plant to join in but he wouldn’t change his mind.

“They have tried to talk him round but there is no chance,” a source close to the group told the Mirror. “His mind is made up and that’s that.”

I’m a 2nd-generation Zeppelin fan. “Stairway To Heaven” is one of my mother’s favorite songs from her childhood. Reading this story my first thought is, how the heck can you turn down $300 million for just 35 days of work?!? Just go on stage and perform those songs that he’s played a million times before, it must be 2nd-nature by now, and then get your money and go home!

When I think about it, I can understand it a little more. He is 66 years old. I don’t know his private life, but I can assume that he must have enough money saved. Certainly enough to last him the rest of his expected life. And that’s the thing, he’s probably thinking what more does he need at 66? I mean, not to be morbid, but how much time does he have left? Specifically, how much active time? He may be thinking, in 14 years I’ll be 80, if I’m still alive I may be very be in a Nursing Home, so what does he need that money for? An even bigger mansion? A private jet? What’s the point now? So now it’s just a matter of does he want to do this? And if the answer is no, then he doesn’t have to.

Still, there’s another part of me that thinks that even if he doesn’t want or need the money for himself, he could still do it, get the money, and then donate it all to charity. With his $300 million he could set up scholarships, build homes for the homeless, donate to hospitals, etc. There’s a lot of good he could do with that money. It’s almost irresponsible to not do it…

Damn. Well, they’ve been married 26 years, with no pre-nup. And he’s still worth $14 billion. So he won’t be clipping coupons anytime soon. But still…damn. That’s a lotta money to give away.

Not bad for 58. I always did like older women…
