PREVIOUSLY: DUTCH #1

I’m just going to get right to it. This issue is just more of the same as the first two issues (I’m including Dutch #0). Dutch fighting a bunch of cyborgs while his internal monologue is being shown to us in captions as he keeps talking about getting old and thinking his days of fighting were behind him.

Picking up right from the end of the previous issue, Dutch has crashed through the window of his high-rise hotel but avoids certain death by taking control of one of the cyborgs sent after him by hacking into it with his own cybernetic implants and turning the tables on his attackers.

He meets with his ex-teammate Erika again who admits to knowing the Gerig is still a threat but, for some reason, still refuses to give Dutch any info or help. So Dutch sneaks off to some old decommissioned Blood Sqaud 7 base to hack into their computer systems to find out where Gerig is and gets attacked by a giant robotic reptilian monster.

After defeating the monster, he gets the info he needs and heads out to confront Gerig once and for all.

So, that’s it. It’s not exactly deep, and we, the readers, are still not much wiser than we were when this miniseries started. There are still hints at more secrets from Erika who is about to relaunch the Blood Squad 7. But overall this story just feels very generic. An old hero is forced out of retirement for one last mission against his old archenemy. Okay, that’s not a bad premise, but we’re basically still where we were at the end of the zero issue, it’s like these two issues since have just been filler. dragging out the plot until we get to that final showdown. I’m hoping this miniseries ends with something that puts a slight twist on this story to make this worthwhile. We’ll see.
