Another late review (seriously, sue me).

So last issue we discover that Detective Laskuras has secretly been plotting to take down the other vampires, and that’s why he recruited Danny in the first place. But the others find out and kill him, and then try to force Danny, Sam, and Amy to kill their own families. But our plucky teens decide to fight back and come up with a plan of attack.

I won’t spoil exactly how it happens, but it shouldn’t exactly be surprising when I say that despite the evil vampires being older and far more experienced with their powers, the good guys win. At this point, they decided to resume their secret identities. They return to school, claiming to have contracted photophobia which requires them to cover themselves completely in the sunlight while resuming their heroes-for-hire activities as The Starguard.

We do get a bit of a plot twist at the end. Since issue #1 we’ve known of Sam’s secret crush on Amy, and in issue #3 we learned of Amy’s secret crush on Danny. In this issue, Amy and Danny get together, which leaves Sam feeling jealous, and it’s hinted that Sam may make some questionable decisions because of this. So maybe we’ll see them in another miniseries, presuming that they survive the events of Big Game.

Story-wise, this was an entertaining miniseries, the characters come off as realistic teenagers, complete with the obsession with becoming “star” on social media. And it’s a cool vampire story. The only weakness is Juanan Rameriz’ artwork, which I just never warmed up to. But I can still recommend this.
